William Henry ("Bill") Goodman Passed away on Wednesday, 13th November 2024 in Hendersonville, North Carolina, at the age of 78. Bill was born in North London on 23rd July 1946 to John and Annie Goodman. The family lived in Hampstead and then St. John's Wood. He was the youngest of seven children and is remembered as a kind and gentle boy, who liked to look after animals. He was very loyal and once stood up to the school bully in defence of a friend who was picked on because of his stutter. Bill left school at 16, and worked in interior design, remodelling nightclubs and venues across London. At one point, he trained to be a chef and could cook a top-notch roast dinner. Bill loved a good, old-fashioned English pint and could regularly be found at The Flask pub in Hampstead, or further down the hill at the Sir Richard Steele. Bill met his wife, Joen, while she was living and working in England. They had a creative life together in London and travelled extensively through Europe, enjoying the culture of Budapest, Vienna and Berlin in particular. In 1992, the couple moved to Hendersonville, North Carolina, to be close to Joen's elderly father. It was here that Bill, who had settled on a career in carpentry, worked hand-in-hand with Joen, overseeing the real estate they managed. One of his stand-out projects was the renovation of the historic, 18-unit Ambassador Apartments in downtown Hendersonville. Bill is survived by his wife, Joen Goodman, his two stepchildren, Scott and Julie, and his two sisters, Marion and Barbara. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Mikey, and his siblings, Joan, Peggy, Olive, and John. Bill was not the kind of man to invite flowers or donations in his honour. Instead, he would most likely appreciate those who knew and loved him to raise a toast to him. A celebration of life will be held in the future.Your tribute has been received.
