Developments near Hackney Wick station will see nearly 200 new homes built, as well as a cycle and pedestrian route to improve links between Hackney and Tower Hamlets.

The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) - which was set up after the capital's 2012 Olympics to promote social, economic and environmental initiatives in Olympic Park - owns three sites planned for development.

The sites will form part of the corporation and Hackney council's Hackney Wick Central master plan, which aims to provide housing and commercial space, and to create a network of streets and spaces to link together currently disconnected areas.

Rosanna Lawes, executive director of development at the London Legacy Development Corporation, said: “This is a major step forward to deliver the next phase of the Hackney Wick Masterplan."

She said the masterplan's design "enhances existing conservations areas" and assets that reflect the areas strong creative and manufacturing history.

The plan was granted outline planning permission in March 2019 and is now set to deliver about 190 new homes, 50 per cent of which will be affordable housing, and 4,500m² of commercial space, including flexible retail and community facilities.

The development will see the creation of a public space at Hackney Wick station's entrance, which will eventually form part of a north-south pedestrian and cycle route from Central Brooks on Wallis Road, across LLDC sites, through the overground station and down to Rothbury Road and White Post Lane.

The planned route will allow southwards travel from the station to Fish Island and across the canal to Queen Elizabeth Park.

Housing association Notting Hill Genesis was selected to develop the master plan along with Hawkins\Brown Architects, Delvendahl Martin, Studio Weave, consultant workspace providers Bow Arts and Hackney Wick based construction partner ENGIE Regeneration Ltd.
