Plans to open a restaurant in Muswell Hill could lead to more noise and anti-social behaviour, a neighbour has warned.

The proposals, for Clarke and Parker Fishmongers on Muswell Hill Broadway, were originally – according to the council documents – to open a wine bar on the premises.

But at a meeting of a licensing committee on Thursday, July 12, the applicants insisted they planned to open an “intimate dining venue serving modern British cuisine”.

John Rogers, who lives in a flat above the premises, said nightclubs in other parts of Muswell Hill had been linked to criminal activity – including shootings and stabbings.

He said of the applicants: “They did open for business on a Friday night. They had over 80 customers outside the restaurant holding drinks along to the doorway of our flat.

“Two people got into the car carrying glasses of red wine and moved their vehicle. I am concerned this is a very high volume of customers.”

Mr Rogers added that he and other neighbours had experienced problems while renovation work was taking place – including having their water cut off – and they had not been dealt with professionally.

But the applicants said the venue would be a “lounge or dining space” and claimed there were no plans to have regular live music.

They said the feedback they had received so far had been overwhelmingly positive and pledged to install soundproofing and wanted to ensure their neighbours were as happy as possible.

The applicants will be told whether their bid has been successful within five working days.
