North London visual artists have come together to showcase their work in a dynamic free exhibition at Hornsey Library.
East Finchley Open Artists, a collective of more than 60 creatives working in various artforms, stage their show ‘Interplay’ this month.
It explores the interaction of a host of techniques, colours, and forms, ranging from painting, to craftwork, to ceramics, mixed-media and sculpture.
"There's a lot of freedom in how you interpret the theme." said exhibition organiser and artist Gail Altschuler. "It's about how the visual arts can explore the interplay of ideas, media, techniques, and colours."
Each piece looks at the idea of convergence, whether that's the connection between youth and aging, or simply the relationship between two striking colours. Contributing artists were asked to write statements on how their work relates to the overall theme.
Altschuler describes the result as "a varied, powerful and evocative body of work that I’m excited to share with everyone."
EFOA often organise and stage their own exhibitions at Hornsey Library's Original Gallery, and ‘Interplay’ features work by more than 30 members, who hail from within a 1.5 mile area around Finchley and East Finchley.
"Some have been part of the group for ten or more years and some are newcomers,” said Altschuler, adding: "Everybody's welcome to the exhibition, the more visitors the better!"
Each visitor will be handed a pencil and paper and encouraged to cast their vote for a favourite piece, and the grand prize winner will be revealed at the end of the exhibition.
Interplay by East Finchley Open Artists runs at The Original Gallery at Hornsey Library, Haringey Park, Crouch End from April 4-6 and April 11-23.
A children’s art workshop takes place on April 16 from 1.30pm-3pm when families can take part in activities such as collages and colouring.
