Rail travellers have been warned of major train disruptions this weekend due to “intensive maintenance”.
Network Rail has said that there will be reduced Thameslink and East Midlands Railway services on April 22 and 23.
Here is a breakdown of how it could affect people travelling over the weekend.
Thameslink
No Thameslink trains will run through central London between London St Pancras International or Finsbury Park and London Blackfriars / London Bridge.
The changes means that Thameslink trains for London St Pancras and Bedford / Luton will not call at Kentish Town.
No trains will also operate between London Blackfriars and Sutton.
However trains will run to an amended timetable between:
- London Bridge and Three Bridges / Horsham / Brighton / Rainham.
- London Victoria and Sevenoaks
East Midlands Railway:
On Saturday (April 22), there will be a reduced hourly service to and from London St Pancras.
A reduced timetable will be in operation, but Network Rail notes that “major sporting events” such as the FA Cup semi-final could lead to busy trains.
On Sunday (April 23), all services between Corby and London St Pancras International will start ot terminate at Wellingborough at an amended timetable. Rail connections are available to Kettering and Corby.
A reduced Intercity train service from and to Sheffield and Nottingham will operate. Trains will be diverted, increasing journey times by up to an hour.
What has Thameslink said?
Jenny Saunders, customer services director for Thameslink and Great Northern, said: “Sunday will be particularly busy into and out of London, with many people heading for the Marathon or the FA Cup semi-final, so please plan you journey in advance and check times before you leave home.”
