The Young Ones stars Adrian Edmondson and Nigel Planer have co-written a quirky disaster comedy which comes to Park Theatre this autumn.
It's Headed Straight Towards Us stars Rufus Hound and Samuel West as a pair of squabbling thespians on an Icelandic film set.
Stuck in a trailer on the side of an active volcano, bitter rivaries emerge between fussy ‘bit part’ actor Hugh Delavois (West) and fading Hollywood bad boy Gary Savage (Hound) dating back to their college years.
As the film collapses around them, and their trailer begins to slip down a melting glacier, an avalanche wipes out the only escape road, and their bridge to safety plunges into the ravine.
Stuck in this natural - and man-made disaster - is 21-year-old runner Leela who must referee their fractious point-scoring and prepare them that they may not escape alive.
Directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, the tender laugh-out-loud comedy is at the Finsbury Park venue from September 13 for a month.
Edmondson and Planer famously worked together on cult anarchic sit-com The Young Ones in the 1980s, and were original members of the early 80s alternative stand-up scene with The Comedy Store and The Comic Strip.
Both have gone on to enjoy successful acting careers with Edmondson also performing as a musician and Planer writing multiple books and plays.
Rufus Hound said: “Nigel and Ade have written something of rare brilliance. Poetic, comedic and human in equal measure and a keen observation of the fragility of the male ego; of actors especially. (Please note in all publications of this statement, that I come ahead of Samuel in the billing). I am more excited than I have been about anything in ages. I think this may well be magnificent."
West added: "Just what the world needs, another examination of the irrelevance of the white male, middle-aged actor, I've had to do a LOT of research. This one's very funny though and true and touching. Two dinosaurs like Rufus and me should be able to do Ade and Nigel's beautiful script justice, And if not, we'll just blame the millennials."
It's Headed Straight Towards Us runs at Park Theatre, Clifton Terrace, Finsbury Park from September 13 until October 20.
