North London has seen a succession of rail delays in the last 12 hours including a fire alert at one busy station.
The Elizabeth line, Thameslink and Tube services were all impacted after a fire alarm was activated at Farringdon station at around 9pm yesterday evening (June 28).
Earlier this morning (June 29), at around 4.30am, Avanti West Coast Services from Euston and London Overground services to Watford and Clapham Junction were delayed while rail staff inspected overhead lines.
National Rail warned that disruption is expected until about 10.30am.
The incident at Farringdon yesterday evening took almost two hours to resolve, and trains only began to stop at the station again at around 10.45pm.
Fire brigade have just arrived! But not gone down into the station…

Commuters took to Twitter to report that the London Fire Brigade was called following an evacuation of the station.
Due to a sudden emergency meaning the Elizabeth Line couldn’t stop at Farringdon, I got off at Liverpool St and, walking back home, passed what was the nearest I had to an office local as a lawyer. Nice pub. £6.60 for a pint of low abv cask is a record breaker for me, though. pic.twitter.com/JN1bd8wNdG

But some people took advantage of the closure to head to pub, with one Twitter user saying: “Due to a sudden emergency meaning the Elizabeth Line couldn’t stop at Farringdon, I got off at Liverpool St and, walking back home, passed what was the nearest I had to an office local as a lawyer. Nice pub.
“£6.60 for a pint of low abv cask is a record breaker for me, though.”
The London Fire Brigade has been contacted for more information.
