Bus routes across north and west London could face severe disruption if a vote for a strike goes ahead for this autumn.
Bus drivers and other staff employed by French-owned company RATP will begin to vote from today (August 14) on whether to take industrial action.
After the ballot closes on September 11, strikes could begin before the end of the next month, union Unite has warned.
The dispute involves drivers at the Westbourne Park garage as well as engineers at the company’s ten London garages, as well as controllers and supervisors.
If strike action is taken, no buses will be operate from any of RATP’s garages.
The union says that a total of 500 workers will be balloted after workers rejected pay increases between five and 6.4 per cent, all of which Unite says are below the true inflation rate.
Unite regional officer Michelle Braveboy said: “Strike action will inevitably cause severe disruption to bus passengers across west and north London, but this dispute is entirely the own making of RATP’s management.
“They have had every opportunity to make an offer to meet our members’ expectations but have failed to do so.”
