A teenager has pleaded guility to manslaughter after a double stabbing in which a boy died.

The 16-year-old appeared at the Old Bailey on Tuesday (August 29) having been charged with the murder of Jamaly Samba Baibu.

A plea of guilty to manslaughter was entered and accepted by the court.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Kieran, who led the murder investigation, said: “While nothing can bring Jamaly back, I am pleased that the guilty plea will save his family having to endure a murder trial that would have been extremely painful for them."

Police had found Jamaly and another boy, 16, with stab wounds after being called to Seward Street in Islington at 11.33pm on December 20.

Officers provided first aid until paramedics and doctors from London’s Air Ambulance arrived.

Jamaly was sadly pronounced dead at the scene despite their efforts.

The 16-year-old has been remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey for questioning on November 17.

He had been arrested after arriving into the UK at Gatwick Airport on December 29 in 2022.

On 30 December that year, he was charged with murder and grievous bodily harm.

The second boy’s injuries were not life threatening.
