Wilko has announced when it will be shutting its last remaining stores, including four in north London.

The stricken retailer has confirmed that its final 111 stores will close on October 8.

It comes after the hardware and furnishings chain went into administration last month after weak consumer spending and mounting debts to suppliers.

Two Wilko stores in north London shut earlier this week – one in Capitol Way, Colindale, on Tuesday (September 19) and one at Edmonton Green shopping centre yesterday (September 21).

Administrators PwC made the decision to wind down the retailer’s operations after “extensive efforts” had failed to produce a deal to save the stores.

Zelf Hussain, joint administrator at PwC, said: “As with those who have already been given notice of redundancy, we will guide and support those team members impacted over the coming weeks through the redundancy claims process.

The Wilko brand will not disappear entirely from the UK high street after The Range agreed to buy Wilko’s brand, website and intellectual property, with plans to sell the acquired brand in its stores.
