Shoppers can bag themselves a pre-Christmas bargain after Amazon opened a pop-up 'second chance' store selling used and returned goods.
Singer Kimberly Wyatt was due to officially open the shop in Bloomsbury's Brunswick Centre today (Wednesday) which will donate all profits to children's charity Barnardo's.
For the next two weeks, customers will have the rare chance to shop in person for Amazon goods and get up to 50 per cent off the usual price tag.
Amazon has donated more than 4,000 products including quality open-box, used and refurbished kitchen and household appliances, books, games and toys, electricals and more.
The shop also features a Repairs Zone where customers can take part in free workshops from experts, learning to fix broken laptops and household tech through live demonstrations.
The online retailer says it has seen a huge rise in demand for second hand goods, with four million products sold in the UK this year at Amazon Second Chance, which also provides information on product repair, recycling and trade-in for electronics.
“Amazon is committed to giving more products a second chance – both through helping customers shop pre-loved, and through programmes to recycle, trade-in and repair products, contributing to a more circular economy,” said John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager, Amazon.
“The Second Chance Store that we’ve launched today with Barnardo’s is all about offering customers a great way to shop second-hand this festive season, while supporting a brilliant charity we have been working with for many years.”
Lynn Perry MBE, CEO of Barnardo’s, said: “We’re grateful to this partnership, which will assist us in supporting more families in crisis across the UK. More than 800,000 children are currently living in poverty in the UK, whilst millions of families are having to choose between essentials like food, clothing and heating their home this winter. The funds raised from the Second Chance Store will help us continue the vital work of supporting families and ensuring children have the best possible start in life.”
The Second Chance Store by Amazon for Barnardo's will be open at The Brunswick Centre, Unit 52, Bernard St, London WC1N 1BS on November 29 from 8am-7pm and then until December 12, 12pm to 7pm Monday to Friday; 12pm to 6pm Saturday; Closed Sunday.
