A total of 15 establishments received poor food hygiene ratings in inspections over the past two months.
One of the eateries inspected by Camden Council’s environmental health team was social media sensation Humble Crumble, a Camden Market dessert stall often raved about on TikTok.
Between October and November, many food outlets near the Hampstead and Highgate area were warned their hygiene standards were not up to scratch.
Flori Canto
The tea shop in Chalton Street was given a 2/5 and told improvement was necessary after an inspection on October 3.
Both the hygienic food handling and management of food safety were ‘generally satisfactory’, but the cleanliness and condition of facilities was given an ‘improvement necessary’ rating.
Philippe Conticini
Described as ‘other catering premises’, this business in Water Lane, Camden was given a 1/5 with ‘major improvement necessary’ on October 4.
The hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities were ranked ‘improvement necessary’, while the management of food safety was rated ‘major improvement necessary’.
Marathon Restaurant
The kebab shop in Chalk Farm Road was given a 1/5 on October 4, with ‘major improvement necessary’.
However the Food Standards Agency notes this place was recently reinspected, with a new rating to be published soon.
At the time of publication, the hygienic food handling was found to be ‘generally satisfactory’, while the cleanliness and condition of facilities was ranked ‘improvement necessary’ and the management of food safety required ‘major improvement’.
Time Art Café
This Haverstock Hill café was given a 1/5 score on October 5, with ‘major improvement necessary’.
The cleanliness and condition of facilities was ‘generally satisfactory’, but the hygienic food handling required improvement and the management of food safety needed ‘major improvement’.
U Tea Cha
On October 6, U Tea Cha was ranked 0/5 and told ‘urgent improvement’ was necessary.
All standards inspected – the hygienic food handling, the cleanliness and condition of facilities and the management of food safety – were rated ‘urgent improvement necessary’.
Siam Noodle
The Camden Market stall in Buck Street was given a 2/5 with ‘improvement necessary’ on October 11.
Both the hygienic food handling and management of food safety were ‘generally satisfactory’, but the cleanliness and condition of facilities was given a ‘improvement necessary’ rating.
Grana Cheesy Pasta
Another Camden Market unit in Buck Street was also given a poor rating, this time with a 1/5 and ‘major improvement necessary’ on October 12.
The cleanliness and condition of facilities was given a ‘generally satisfactory’, but the hygienic food handling required ‘improvement’ and the management of food safety was rated ‘major improvement necessary’.
THE ARGENTINIAN
A third Buck Street Camden Market unit was given a low rating of 2/5 and was told improvement was ‘necessary’ on October 12.
Specifically, the hygienic food handling was rated ‘improvement necessary’, while the cleanliness and condition of facilities and management of food safety were ‘generally satisfactory’.
The Good Egg
Located in North Yard, Chalk Farm Road, this Tel-Aviv inspired restaurant was given a 2/5 and told improvement was ‘necessary’ on October 16, just weeks after opening its doors.
While the hygienic food handling was rated ‘good’ and the management of food safety ‘generally satisfactory’, the cleanliness and condition of facilities was rated ‘improvement necessary’.
N K Food and Wine
The business in Kentish Town Road was given a 2/5, ‘improvement necessary’ on October 16.
Both the hygienic food handling and management of food safety were found to be ‘generally satisfactory’, but the cleanliness and condition of facilities was given ‘improvement necessary’.
BELLYZONE
The Chinese unit on the second floor of Hawley Wharf in Camden Market was given a 1/5 score with ‘major improvement necessary’ on October 18.
Both the hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities were rated ‘improvement necessary’, while the management of food safety required ‘major improvement’.
Bear and Garlic
Another Camden Market unit in Hawley Wharf was given a low rating, this time a 2/5 with ‘improvement necessary’ on October 18.
While the hygienic food handling and management of food safety were ‘generally satisfactory’, the cleanliness and condition of facilities was rated ‘improvement necessary’.
Café the Light
Located in The Stables Market in Chalk Farm Road, this unit was scored a 2/5, with ‘improvement necessary’, on October 20.
Both the hygienic food handling and management of food safety were ‘generally satisfactory’, while the cleanliness and condition of facilities was rated ‘improvement necessary’.
Humble Crumble
The TikTok sensation in Camden Stables Market was given a 2/5, ‘improvement necessary’, on October 30.
Both the hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities were rated ‘improvement necessary’, but the management of food safety was found to be ‘generally satisfactory’.
Holmes Café
The café in Holmes Road was rated 1/5, ‘major improvement necessary’, on October 30.
Both the hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities were rated ‘improvement necessary’, while the management of food safety was rated ‘major improvement necessary’.
The Ham&High is keeping a monthly record of food hygiene inspections within Camden.
The food hygiene scores range from zero - meaning 'urgent improvement' is needed - to five, which is deemed 'very good'.
At the time of publication, no Camden inspections in November were rated poorly in the relevant areas of the Ham&High
