Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer helped mark the completion of 51 council flats in a formerly run-down estate.
The Holborn and St Pancras MP spoke at an event in Maitland Park Estate in Haverstock on Wednesday (December 20), where 119 homes have been built, with 51 for social rent, to replace a 1960s block of flats and increase the quality and number of social homes there.
The three blocks are all named after prominent figures from the borough.
They are: Noor Inayat Khan, the first woman spy who was dropped behind enemy lines in France during the Second World War, Mary Prince, the first black woman to have an autobiography published in Britain, and Antony Grey, an LGBTQ+ activist whose work led to decriminalisation of homosexuality for men.
Sir Keir dropped by to speak to tenants and congratulate everyone involved in the project.
He said: "To walk in this morning to see the blocks was fantastic, they look great, I went to have a look around and they are really high spec, nice places for people to live.
"You can't distinguish those that are for private sale and those that are for social housing, it's a fantastic achievement and hard to do that."
Cllr Danny Beales, who is Camden Council's cabinet member for new homes, said: "We're here today to celebrate the opening of 119 new homes, 51 new council homes for families. We're almost there, the last snags to work through as residents move in, the last changes to make."
