A consistently top-rated primary school was the most oversubscribed in its borough last year.
For the academic year 2023/24, 69 students picked Eleanor Palmer Primary School in Tufnell Park as their first preference, but only 29 places were offered.
Perhaps unsurprisingly the school was rated ‘outstanding’ by education watchdog Ofsted at its last two inspections, including one in September last year.
In total, there were 15 primary schools in the borough which received more first preferences than they gave out offers.
But more than half of the state-funded primary schools in the borough received fewer first preferences than they gave out in offers.
Many of these schools will have taken students who did not pick them as their first preference, while other spaces will have been filled from people living in other London boroughs.
Camden Council approved plans to close St Dominic’s Catholic Primary School in Kentish Town last year due to falling pupil rolls.
Here are the ten most oversubscribed primary schools in the borough:
- Eleanor Palmer Primary School
- Hampstead Parochial Church of England Primary School
- Christ Church Primary School, Hampstead
- Emmanuel Church of England Primary School in West Hampstead
- Christopher Hatton Primary School in Laystall Street
- Torriano Primary School in Kentish Town
- Fitzjohn's Primary School in Hampstead
- Primrose Hill School
- Holy Trinity and Saint Silas CofE Primary School in Chalk Farm
- Netley Primary School & Centre for Autism in Euston
