Children are getting help to fill the gap in free school meals over the Easter holiday with food vouchers from a supermarket.
It follows an appeal by the Young Camden Foundation, which is getting £4,000 of vouchers from the Aldi supermarket chain.
“We hope our appeal helps to ease the pressures on families,” the foundation’s chief executive Daisy Srblin said. “Many families struggle without school meals to put hot food on the table during the holidays.
“This donation which will make a big difference to those families we support.”
The foundation runs an activities programme for youngsters from Reception to Year 11 who are eligible for benefits and free school meals — but there would be a food gap during holidays without the donation.
The families can use the vouchers at the checkouts at five Aldi stores at Camden Town, Finchley Road, Kilburn, Little Venice and Archway.
The supermarket chain also donates surplus food to charities up and down the country. It has donated 40 million meals in total since 2019.
