A man who sexually assaulted a woman on the London Underground and spat at police as they arrested him has been jailed.
Nathan Gordon, 46, of Wightman Road, Hornsey, sexually assaulted a woman at Seven Sisters Underground Station on May 24 last year.
He was reported to staff, who challenged him, but he then left the station.
Later the same day he was seen lying on a bench and officers arrested him for the sexual assault.
He then spat at an officer as he was being arrested.
On March 11 he pleaded guilty to sexual assault and assault of an emergency worker.
At Wood Green Crown Court a judge sentenced him to nine and a half months in prison.
Gordon was also given a seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which bans him from approaching, touching or making any attempt to communicate with lone women travelling on the railway network.
He is also required to leave any station immediately after leaving a train or make his way directly to the next available connecting service.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Stephen Allen said: “Gordon’s blatant intimidation and harassment of this woman was both unnerving and sickening.
“Thanks to her bravery for reporting the incident immediately, despite being understandably upset, meant that officers were able to attend the location and identify and arrest Gordon within hours of the offence."
She added: "Every report is important. We urge everyone to save 61016 to their phones and download the Railway Guardian before you travel so you can discreetly get in touch with us if you need us.”
