A care home has vowed to restore its good rating after it was slammed with a poor food hygiene score.
Ash Court Care Centre, in Ascham Street, Kentish Town, was told ‘major improvement’ was necessary with its food hygiene and was given a 1/5 score.
The environmental health team at Camden Council visited the site, which offers 24-hour care to people over the age of 55, on February 6 as part of a routine hygiene inspection.
But the standards of the hygienic food handling – which includes the preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage of food – was given an ‘improvement necessary’ rating.
The management of food safety – which is the system or checks in place to ensure food served is safe to eat – was given a ‘major improvement necessary’ rating.
However the cleanliness and condition of facilities were considered to be ‘good’.
In a brochure for the care home, Ash Court said that meals are created by its in-house team, with a catering team providing meals which are “varied, tasty and well presented”.
While full details about what type of problems were recorded in the management of food safety and hygienic food handling are unknown, the Ham&High has requested Camden Council to present a full hygiene report.
A spokesperson for the Forest Healthcare group, which runs Ash Court Care Home, said: “The health and safety of our residents is of paramount importance to us.
"Our main catering is provided by a company that brings award-winning specialised meals that cater for a wide variety of nutritional needs.
"Since the inspection, a specialist has helped resolve all the issues raised in our own kitchen, and we are confident we will restore our good rating when we are re-inspected."
