A Camden live music venue says it is worth more than £3 million per year in the benefits it has on the community.
A study by Social Change UK revealed that the Roundhouse’s broadcast and digital programmes help young people to learn technical skills, build contacts and help them find work - creating value that far outweighs the amounts put in.
The Roundhouse invests around £85,000 each year in film, TV, live streaming and digital projects.
But every £1 invested yields £42.25 of value from film and digital projects, and £21.88 from audio projects.
This results in benefits calculated at £2.88 million from film and digital projects, and £890,000 from audio projects.
Derek Richards, Roundhouse's head of broadcast and digital, said: "These incredibly high values show the phenomenal impact creative projects can have on young people - from self-belief to securing work.
"We shouldn’t underestimate the importance of young people having access to creative opportunities at every stage of their development."
The youth programme costs around £3.3 million to deliver each year, with the Roundhouse currently working with over 8,000 young people a year - a number they want to increase to 15,000
In the study, young people cited under-awareness of being freelance and stress from managing workloads or deadlines as areas to improve.
The Roundhouse has since invested heavily in its in-house youth work team, opening Roundhouse Works in June 2023 to support freelancers and entrepreneurs with a workspace, alongside opportunities to learn about other aspects of roles in the creative industry.
