Spring has brought warm weather and with the promise of more summer nights around the corner people will be wanting to sit outside.

So we asked Romford Recorder readers where the best beer gardens were to enjoy sunny days and balmy evenings and they did not disappoint.

In top place came The Drill, in Brentwood Road, Gidea Park, which also has live music and bar games.

The Harrow, in Hornchurch Road, received votes as did the Wheatsheaf in Wheatsheaf Road.

Two people loved the Aspen Tree, in Gobions Ave, Collier Row.

The Ship, in Main Road, that dates back to 1762, was also highlighted.

The Grade II listed building has a garden at the back.

The Golden Lion Hotel, in High Street, Romford, was mentioned.

Bretons Social Club, in Rainham Road, was described as "peaceful" with a "lovely garden".

The reader also mentioned the "great variety of beers and larger, wines and spirits"

A little further out Sir Henry's, a family run restaurant, in Romford Road, Aveley South Ockendon, was also highlighted.

But perhaps the cheapest and "safest place" was people's back gardens, which are not subject to licensing closing times either.
