Tulip Siddiq has emerged victorious winning her seat in Hampstead and Highgate.

The Labour candidate received 23,432 votes, up from 14,118 in 2019.

She emerged the winner as the Labour Party made record wins nationally positioning Sir Keir Starmer as the next Prime Minister.

Don Williams came second with 8,462 votes for the Conservatives and Lorna Russell, Green Party councillor in Highgate, came third with 6,630.

The constituency of Hampstead and Highgate was of keen interest on July 4 as it was seen as a marginal seat.

Re-established in 2023 for the 2024 election, it replaces the former Hampstead and Kilburn constituency held by Labour candidate Ms Siddiq since 2015.

Ms Siddiq said it was the "honour of my life" to represent Hampstead and Highgate.

She thanked those who voted for her adding: "Even if you didn't vote for me I will be your MP and work hard for you."

She praised Sir Keir Starmer who won his Holborn & St Pancras seat with 18,884 votes.

She said the Labour leader, who is to become the next Prime Minister, was the first to call her when she was a victim of hate speech, and when their colleague Jo Cox was murdered in June 2016 and who also stood in for her when she had acute morning sickness.

"You have voted for the change you wanted and a leader who is compassionate and kind," she added.

The Conservatives saw heavy losses throughout the night with former Prime Minster Rishi Sunak conceding defeat at around 5am.

Mr Williams said: "Congratulations to Tulip. We will be back."

Cllr Russell said: "Congratulations to Tulip who's a good MP. The result is a breakthrough for the Green Party in this area."

Hampstead and Highgate saw a voter turnout of 60.99 per cent with 80.029 people registering to vote.
