Labour’s Adam Small has won the Hornsey ward by-election.
The by-election took place at the same time as the general election on Thursday (July 4).
It was called after previous Labour councillor Adam Jogee was selected as a parliamentary candidate in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, where he was ultimately successful.
Speaking ahead of his win at Alexandra Palace, Cllr Small said that despite being a traditional Labour area, he wasn’t being “complacent” during the campaign.
He said: “We’ve had lots of great conversations on the doors, people are generally happy with how things are going, people are feeling they want Labour representation, but until every last vote is counted, we’re not entirely sure.”
Promising to “step up” and engage with communities that weren’t heard, he highlighted the Campsbourne community, particularly Campsbourne Estate, as an area he felt a “bit more” could be done.
He said issues residents raised with him during the campaign ranged from rose bushes being cut down to people waiting for housing.
Cllr Small admitted there was “a lot to do”.
After his win was announced, the newly-elected Labour councillor thanked the people of Hornsey, Haringey Council, his campaign team, and his family.
He said: “A massive thank you to the people of Hornsey for putting your trust in the Labour Party again to continue delivering on our manifesto for a fairer, greener, borough.
"Two more years of change and improving things for the people of Hornsey, so let’s get to work.”
