More than 700 pupils, staff and parents marched between London's concrete landmarks to raise money for their 'Brutalist' school hall to become a live venue.

Acland Burghley School, in Burghley Road, Tufnell Park, needs to raise £300,000 so its unusual hexagonal hall can undergo a £1.6m revamp.

The hall comes from the 'brutalist' school of architecture - characterised by use of raw concrete - so fundraisers held a 'Brutal Walk' to other brutalist London landmarks including the Barbican, National Theatre and Southbank on Monday (July 22).

This raised more than £8,500 towards the Hall for All campaign, which aims to transform the school’s Grade II listed assembly hall into a creative hub for students and the local community.

The fundraising drive is supported by celebrities including Tracy-Ann Oberman, Samantha Spiro, Adam James, Claire Skinner, Tom Basden, Anna Maxwell Martin, and Shaun Dingwall, who took part in a music and poetry evening in April.

Former pupil and co-project manager of the walk Louis Sayers said: "It was a beautiful tribute and a really nice testament of what the Burghley School community can do and we're really excited on the progress it has brought to the ongoing Hall for All campaign."
