The ninth Banksy animal artwork in nine days has appeared at London Zoo.
A new mural of a gorilla seemingly lifting a shutter to free animals, including birds and a seal, from captivity, has been pictured at the Regent’s Park attraction.
It marks the ninth black silhouette graffiti to be claimed by Banksy in the capital over the last week and a half.
Last Monday (August 5), the first painting of a goat was spotted in Richmond.
That week, elephants appeared in Chelsea, monkeys in Brick Lane, a lone wolf in Peckham, two pelicans eating a fish in Walthamstow, a black cat in Cricklewood, and fish in the City of London – all on consecutive days.
Yesterday (August 12), a black rhino was seen in Charlton, before being defaced hours later.
At around midnight last night, ZSL London Zoo posted about the latest artwork, which was at the time unconfirmed by the elusive artist.
The post caption read: “Is the (big) cat out of the bag?
“Have our animals been helping to make people smile all over London this week?”
There has been speculation as to the meaning behind the latest series of murals, and how long it will be continued by Banksy.
The artist has since confirmed that the gorilla art work is their own.
