Those looking to cool off on the hottest day of the year faced a long wait at Hampstead Heath's mixed pond.
Temperatures soared yesterday (August 12), with the mercury hitting almost 35C in some parts of the UK.
The Met Office said that it was officially the hottest day of the year, beating the previous record from July.
Many looking for some relief from the heat headed to the ponds in Hampstead Heath, although long queues kept them waiting.
Some bathers reported standing around for about 90 minutes before being allowed to take a dip in the mixed pond.
The area takes bookings throughout much of the day, but is walk-in only after 6.30pm.
Despite the queues pictures showed hundreds enjoying the pond, where water temperatures exceeded 20C, throughout the day.
