Although you might have many exciting plans this August bank holiday weekend, travelling around could prove to be difficult due to major train engineering works.
The National Rail has warned that it will carry out essential work over the Bank Holiday between August 24 and August 26, which could affect journeys.
Here’s what you need to know:
Kings Cross
One of the biggest disruptions will be at King’s Cross on Sunday (August 25) – as services on the East Coast Main Line to and from King’s Cross will be “significantly amended”.
Engineering work is taking place between St Neots and King’s Cross, closing various lines from late Saturday night to early Monday morning.
Replacement buses will be operating, but some services will not run at all.

Euston
For most of the weekend, there will be a reduced and amended service by train companies running on the West Coast Main Line to and from Euston.
This means it will affect all Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway Services to and from Euston.
The London Overground between Euston and Watford Junction will also be affected.
Work will be taking place between Euston and North Wembley, while track renewals will take place at Primrose Hill to “deliver more reliable train journeys”.
For the Avanti West Coast
There will be an amended service which means:
- One train will run per hour between Euston and Birmingham New Street on Monday (August 26)
- One train will per hour will run between Euston and Blackpool North / Preston / Scotland via Birmingham
- One train per hour will run between London Euston and Glasgow Central via Nuneaton
- One train per hour will run between Euston and Liverpool Lime Street
- Two trains per hour will run between Euston and Manchester Piccadilly (via Stafford / Crewe / Wilmslow)
- Trains to / from Holyhead will run between Crewe and Holyhead only
For the London Northwestern Railway
- On Saturday, trains that usually run between London Euston and Tring will not run. And until 8pm, trains between Euston and Birmingham New Street / Crewe will depart earlier from or depart later from London Euston.
- On Sunday between 12pm and 9pm, trains will depart earlier or later from Euston between Euston and Milton Keynes Central / Northampton / Birmingham New Street / Crewe.
- On Monday, an amended service will run between London Euston and Tring / Bletchley / Milton Keynes Central / Northampton.
For the Overground

- On Sunday between 11.30am and 9.20pm, there will be a reduced train service between the same stations.
- On Monday, the Overground will not be affected.
