Half a dozen schools in Haringey might soon no longer have their ‘outstanding’ status after the education watchdog decided to scrap single-word ratings.
Ofsted’s four headline ratings - outstanding, good, requires improvement and inadequate – will no longer be used, the Government announced earlier this week.
It comes after the suicide of primary school headteacher Ruth Perry last year, which took place after a critical inspection by the education watchdog.
Ofsted will continue to inspect schools against the same standards, but will now only issue gradings related to individual aspects of a school's performance.
Around 500 schools in England achieved the top rating of ‘outstanding’ at their last inspection.
This includes six secondary schools in Haringey – two in Muswell Hill, two in Tottenham, and two in Wood Green.
Two of these schools – The Grove in Downhills Park Road, and TreeHouse School in Woodside Avenue – are special schools.
Five of these schools received their rating either this year or last year, while Gladesmore Community School in Crowland Road has not been inspected since 2013.
Here is a list of all schools in Haringey that are rated outstanding, and the date of their last inspection.
- Alexandra Park School in Bidwell Gardens – March 1, 2023
- Gladesmore Community School in Crowland Road – December 5, 2013
- Harris Academy Tottenham in Ashley Road – January 12, 2023
- St Thomas More Catholic School in Glendale Avenue – May 15, 2024
- The Grove in Downhills Park Road – March 1, 2023
- TreeHouse School in Woodside Avenue – March 8, 2023
