We were delighted to welcome children into our re-launched Nursery School at Highgate Primary this term.
Starting school can be a big transition, but it is made so much easier when the new setting feels home-like and welcoming, which is something we’ve been working particularly hard on at Highgate Primary.
Our on-site midwifery, baby-weighing and toddler playgroups means that, for many of our children, school is a place they have known and loved since they were tiny. For them, starting in nursery at three-years-old is a natural step.
And so it proved as children skipped into our freshly-decorated and beautifully set up nursery classrooms and outdoor spaces. Almost immediately they were painting in the art area, giggling in the home corner and generally having fun and making friends.
They have entered into imaginary small-world dinosaur swamps, found ladybirds and worms, played in the water trays and dug in the sandpit. Add in lots of stories and songs and PE in the playground and it’s been a very busy week!
There is so much to look forward to.
Before you know it, they’ll be performing ‘The Dingle Dangle Scarecrow’ on our beautiful Victorian stage, looking for frogs and snails on the school allotment, baking in cookery studio and producing artistic masterpieces in the art studio. A lot happens in the nursery year!
