Three leisure centres have come back under council control after repeated pool closures by the previous operator.
Haringey Council will now run leisure facilities at Tottenham Green, Park Road and Broadwater Farm Community Centre.
Control of the leisure centres was ceded by Fusion Lifestyle yesterday (October 1), a year after the council terminated the provider’s contract.
In 2023, Tottenham Green Pools in Philip Lane was shut for more than a year after flooding in the plant room.
Fusion-run Park Road Pools and Fitness in Crouch End was also shut for shorter period of time due to “maintenance issues”.
At the time, the council said Fusion was failing to provide “the best quality service”, and moved to take back direct control of the leisure facilities.
A phased set of refurbishment works will now take place at the three sites over the next six months.
Council leader Cllr Peray Ahmet said: “I was delighted to speak to our leisure centre staff members as we mark a fresh start for this provision in our borough.
“It’s a really exciting time as we bring these three facilities back under the direct control of the council and – whether you’re an active, lapsed or new member – you should see a distinct difference in the standard of leisure provision in Haringey from now on.”
