The Jewish Community Centre London is set to host three days of discussion one year on from October 7.
The events will mark the first anniversary of a Hamas attack on Israel that killed more than 1,000 people, and saw around 250 people taken as hostages to Gaza.
Israel’s subsequent war in Gaza has claimed the lives of more than 41,000 Palestinians.
The first of the talks hosted by JW3 in Finchley Road will take place this evening (October 7) and will focus on academic responses to the Hamas attack.
Speakers include – Goldsmiths sociology lecturer David Hirsch, lawyer Professor Anthony Julius, antisemitism researcher Dr Linda Maizels and rabbi Baroness Julia Neuberger.
Tomorrow evening, writer Robbie Gringras and Israeli musician Adam Mader will host an evening of music and storytelling.
JW3 says about the event: “[They] will perform Israeli songs whose meaning has changed forever in the wake of the war, tell stories that are now cast in a different light, and share anecdotes, observations and interpretations of a country in pain.”
Israeli journalist Hagai Segal will speak at the final event on Wednesday (October 9).
This talk will allow the audience to – “hear Hagai's thoughts, the facts and stats as he focuses on Israel, the effects of the war, as well as the changes and possibilities for the future”.
