Haringey Borough lack of forward has been the downfall so far this season says manager Tom Loizou ahead of tricky week.
The Borough will welcome Cray Wanderers to Coles Park Stadium on Saturday before making the trip away to Bishop’s Stortford on Tuesday evening as they look to build on a positive start to the Isthmian Premier League season.
“We’ve played very well, we’ve got some good players, but like I said you need someone who is going to put the ball in the back of the net for you consistently,” Loizou said.
“That’s been our downfall and now we have two very hard games, we’ve got Cray and then Bishop’s Stortford, they’re not going to be easy and there is no easy games.
“It seems like everyone is beating is beating each other in our division, the only ones showing any consistency at the moment is Kingstonian, and we should have had a result against them at the start of the season.”
He added: “We just need one or two forwards at the football club, it’s difficult to get them because of the money they’re asking for, so maybe we’ll have to continue playing without forwards for the time being.”
Haringey played out a goalless draw away to Leatherhead at Fetcham Grove in tricky conditions on the weekend.
“The weather conditions were terrible, we had to fight through a rain storm, and towards the end of the game the pitch started to puddle up around the areas.
“We had full control of the game from start to finish, in the last 30 minutes we were camped outside their box, corners, throw ins and free-kicks and came very close a few times.
“Their goalkeeper pulled off a couple of good saves, but it was one of those games, I think they must be frightened to bits of us because they were delaying the game, pulling shirts, professional fouls right from the first minute.
“I don’t know what they get taught down there, but it’s not football, and I did pre-warn the referee about their delaying tactics but nothing was done about that. It was one of those games, difficult conditions, and a difficult team to play against.
“At the moment we’re struggling confidence wise up top getting goals and that doesn’t help. It’s something that I need to sort out quickly before our season dwindles away.
“If we’re scored one goal we could have gone second.”
