A new boxing club got off to a strong start with a win in its first fight.
Nineteen-year-old Austin Whelan made history when he went through the ropes to become the first fighter to represent Ally Pally Boxing club in its first bout.
Whelan won by unanimous decision after three two minute rounds in the fight, held in Guildford, Surrey on Saturday, March 9.
EFG, which stands for Elite Family Genius, is based at Ally Pally's famous Transmitter Hall.
The club, which opened months six months ago, is run by head coach Pepe Bryan and daughter Kesanna Bryan, who are no strangers to boxing.
Whelan, who celebrates his birthday later on this month and is born on the same day as Kes, couldn't have made the father and daughter team more proud as he secured a knock down in the third round, cheered on by family and friends.
"This is a great start to our journey as a boxing club," said Pepe. "Austin has stuck with us as we transitioned into a boxing club and is practically one of our family.
"He works hard and has a determination that is top level, for him to be the first to represent our club and do it so well, is emotional. We are all very proud of him."
Although the club has only been running for six months, the family is full of experience. Pepe has been coaching for 20 years and Kes is an international amateur boxer, winning at the Golden Girls tournament in Sweden in 2022.
Son and younger brother Kejai Bryan is a national champion, after winning the famous golden gloves in 2021.
